With London pulling out all the patriotic stops for Jubilee celebrations this weekend, we’ve been celebrating our British Heritage style by opening the volt to our vintage collection.
Some of our best vintage prom dresses from the volt are on display in the Oxford Circus store in aid of joining in the high street celebrations..
The stunning dresses make us proud of our history and place in Britain over the last 60 years, born out of Selfridge in 1966. If you’re heading to central London for the Jubilee celebrations, make sure you take a trip to store to check the powerful affect they’ve had on our flagship store.
If you can't make it into store, visit our Occasion Shop online for our latest vintage inspired pieces.
Need some inspiration in the form of Jubilee baking? Look no further!
We had our own Jubilee celebrations here at the Miss Selfridge offices. Yes, in British style, we spent the afternoon decorating our outside courtyard for the occasion, and yes, we had to make a mad dash indoors when it started to rain!
We had a bake off with prizes for taste, look and originality (won by the cake popsicles) and a prize for the best crown.
The design team put everyone else to shame with their creativity!
Enjoy all these yummy photos. It tasted as good as it looks!
London is full of little cupcake cafés and they’re multiplying and popping up on street corners everywhere! They’re the perfect place to meet up with your friends on a Saturday afternoon or for a naughty treat on your way home from work. When we discover such local hidden gems as Violet Café in Hackney, we don’t like to keep them to ourselves. Violet is my local, undiscovered and unbelievably cute teeny weeny café, full of mouth watering delights.
Stepping into the little cafe, I’m greeted by a counter full of New York style cup cakes, Whoopie Pies, Salted Caramel Cake and Marshmallow Cupcakes anyone?! On my last visit I chose a salted caramel cake (Which was delicious by the way!), which came served on miss-matched vintage plates and tea in miniature bowls which reminded me of tea time at my Nana's house!
A visit to Violet Cakes is the perfect place to lull away a few hours on a lazy afternoon, drinking tea and devouring Violet's selection of cakes and fashionable reading material.....Enjoy!
Last month we invited our favourite press to the press office showroom for an exclusive view of our High Summer collection. To make it a bit different (and to show that the Miss Selfridge girls like to keep things fresh and exciting!) we set up a special customising denim bar.Our Creative Director Yasmin Yusuf and her team sourced an incredible selection of colourful vintage fabric trims, studs and jewels from vintage markets and shopping trips all around the world, from LA and New York to India.
The lovely girls on the denim buying team gave us their very best summer denim pieces including neon jackets, printed jeans, boho denim gilets and fab cut off faded shorts. To help our press guests create their customising master pieces, we had the super talented girls from Sew Over It on hand to give advice on sewing and studding techniques. Lots of our journalist friends came along and got stuck in making themselves super stylish one off creations.
We had attendance from all the top magazines and websites including Vogue, Glamour, Elle, Cosmopolitan, Company.co.uk, Look, More, Stylist and Reveal. We also had the gorgeous presenters Zoe Hardman and Laura Whitmore pop in and get creative!
The day was a huge success; everyone loved the collection and thought the customising was lots of fun. Clare Smith ‘Fashion Stylist’ from Cosmopolitan said:
“it was a brilliant idea, the selection of vintage trims was like nothing I had ever seen before. The colours and details were amazing. I customised a pair of cut off shorts which I will definitely be rocking throughout the summer. And the best bit is no-one else will have the same pair!”
We’re loving that the new series of TOWIE is back on our screens. In last night’s episode, Lydia wore not one, but two Miss Selfridge outfits on the show!
